2024 Triumph Daytona 660 Announced!
Embargo date Wednesday 10th 7am NZ time
In 2020 Triumph released their Trident 660, followed by the Tiger Sport in 2021 with the same 660cc engine. Both bikes were very successful, so it's time Triumph took that same engine and put it in a middle-weight sports chassis.
The 2024 Triumph Daytona 660 is a fully-faired middle-weight sport bike, powered by a 660cc inline 3-cylinder engine providing 95ps @ 11250rpm, up 17% from the engine used in the Trident. Redline is at 12,650, which is higher than the Trident, and looking at the dyno graph, there is more top-end power from around 7500 rpm and 69nm torque @ 8250 rpm. This is all achieved by the introduction of triple throttle bodies instead of just one and a 3 into-1 header.
Triumph has far from taken the 3 banger 660 from the trident and slapped it into a new frame, there is a stack of new parts, and a new map/tune. Putting a triple in a middle-weight sports bike is an interesting move, in a class full of p-twins, Triumph have a massive point of difference here.
The new Daytona has an 810mm seat height, with a split rider and pillion seat. Suspension is by way of 41mm big piston Showa forks with 110mm travel, and Showa mono-shock RSU with 130mm travel and preload adjustment.
Stopping the new Daytona is Radial 4-piston brakes up front clamping on 310mm discs. Rolling stock is 17-inch wheels front and back
Something most owners will be interested to hear is about service intervals. triumph says the new Daytona will have extended intervals, with 16000km between oil changes and a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty.
The new Daytona does not lack electronics, with 3 riding modes, sport, road and rain. ABS and switchable traction control along with Ride by wire throttle. The same colour TFT display as seen in the Tiger Sport and compatible with the optional My Triumph connectivity system. All LED lighting, and self-canceling LED indicators, can be swapped for the scrolling LED indicators from the extensive options catalogue, which has over 30 items on it, including lower seat and shift assist.
This is a stunning-looking bike, available soon in 3 colours white/grey, black and red
Triumph have aimed to make the bike very well-priced. Though NZ pricing is yet to be confirmed, in the UK this bike is going to be around $8500 pounds
