Cardo Packtalk Edge Revealed | First Look
Cardo has been teasing us with a mystery new product for a few weeks now. We shared with you our predictions a few weeks ago, and now we have seen the big reveal!
Introducing the Cardo Packtalk Edge.
The Packtalk Edge comes into the Cardo lineup as the new top dog, replacing the previous king of the jungle the Packtalk Black. At this stage, I am under the impression the Packtalk Bold and Slim will still be available.
The Edge shares many of the features from the model it replaces, but is updated and looks great. We still have 3 buttons and a roller wheel, which doubles as a 4th button, and the classic Packtalk Bold design language has been retained. It looks "same, same, but different"
Firstly, we were screaming out for USB-C and Cardo has delivered. This also means the unit is fast charge equipped, but still comes with a claimed 13 hours of talktime.
The Edge has a new slimline form factor and the mounting plate (dubbed the "Air Mount") has undergone a bit of a redesign, now utilizing magnets to hold the unit on. This so far is raising the most questions. Looking a little deeper into it, there does seem to be a clip of some sort, as instructions to release the Edge from the mount do say to "press a button and slide". I cant wait to see how this new Air-mount works and put it to the test and rest assured, we will be putting it to the test.,
The boffins at JBL have come up with 3 new sound profiles, and the Edge still comes with the 40mm JBL speakers, but now with more volume. Personally, I'm not too worried about the sound profiles, but extra volume is always welcome.
The Cardo Packtalk Edge is still waterproof, comes equipped with new Bluetooth 5.2 technology, and Cardo's 2nd generation DMC for quicker pairing. Cardo actually goes into details, saying they have rebuilt the DMC protocol from the ground up.
They have also upgraded the natural Voice Engine and improved the noise-canceling mic, which was already pretty damn good.
And in a big move to bring the Packtalk into line with the Freecom and Spirit models, we now have Over-the-air updates instead of having to take your Packtalk in and plug it into your computer.
So, that's the big reveal. Cardo's new Packtalk Edge is the new top-dog on the block, and if the new Spirit and Freecom X lines are anything to go by, the Edge is going to be awesome. I found the wideband intercom which the Spirit and Freecom have come out with is a game-changer, giving you the sort of sound quality when talking with mates that you would get on say an average Zoom call.
Hit the subscribe button, and we will keep you up to date on when these new units will be available for purchase in New Zealand. Pricing is NZ$649 for the single unit and NZ$1199 for the Duo.
We're hoping to get our hands on the new Packtalk Edge to dissect it in minute detail, so if you have any questions, get at us!
